Municipal Parks


Go snowmobiling

Hearst has the reputation of having some of the nicest trails in Ontario. Our trails are often compared to snow covered highways!! Plus, we have over 1,000 km of trails, which means you can ride a new trail everyday for 4 days. Make sure to check the OFSC map to see if the trails are open before your trip.


Play a round of golf

Hearst Golf Club offers golfers an ideal setting to play the game they love and to hone their skills. Its friendly atmosphere and unparalleled service guarantee all golfers an unforgettable experience.

Located 5 kilometers (three miles) north of town. Hearst Golf Club members are very friendly. This Golf Club has a nine-hole golf course, a clubhouse where you will find a restaurant, bar and a pro-shop.

Play some tennis

The Town of Hearst maintains 4 tennis courts during the summer.  Lighting is provided every day until 11pm.  For those who would like to practice individually, there is a board on site for this.  The tennis courts are located behind the Hearst High School.

Take a walk in one of our trails
A beautiful walking trail along the Mattawishkwia River runs through town. The Calypso Trail is located at Lake Kennedy, 25 km west of Hearst

  1. Fitness trail: the trail parallels the Mattawishkwia river for 3 km, with    access to Kinsey and Lecours Park.
  2. Highway 11: Starting at Cecile Trailer park, this trail will take you on a        7.5 km along Highway 11.
  3. Johnson’s Lake: Starting on Marchildon Road, this 2 km trail will take you to Johnson’s Lake.
  4. Highway 583: Following Highway 583 South, this trail starts on 9th            Street and will lead you to Girard Road, near Grenier Cemetery. 

Skate at the outdoor rink

Situated on West Street, it’s the perfect place to put on your skates and do a few laps, or even play a bit of hockey with the neighboring kids!


Municipal Winter Slide

The municipal winter slide is located at the end of Piper Street. Fun guaranteed for kids and adults!


Go skiing or snowshoeing at the Cross Country Ski & Snowshoe Club

Enjoy a nice day spent in the outdoors by cross country skiing or snowshoeing in the Club’s trail. They have different difficulty levels, meaning everybody can have fun! The circuit also include a refuge where you can warm up on colder days, and a big slide where you can either ski down or use one of the sleighs at the refuge. The club has close to 20 km of ski trails, and another 20 km of snowshoe trails.


Go snowshoing to the Thunder House Falls

Discover one of Hearst’s most beautiful asset by snowshoeing in the Boreal forest, culminating at the spectacular Thunder House Falls on the Missinibi River. The trails offer a unique and intimate experience with it’s 10 km trail through the forest. As there are no overnight accommodation, you need to plan to walk the total of 20 km, as you must return on the same day. Walk the hiking trails at the Fushimi Provincial Park

The Fushimi Lake Provincial Park has two hiking trails to offer. The first one being the Achilles Lake Trail, which is a 1 km trail leading to a small lake at the north side of the campground, offering jaw dropping sunsets. The second trail is the Fire Tower Trail, a 7 km trail leading to one of the few original fire lookout towers left in Ontario. The tower was built in the 1930s and was used to keep watch for fires in summertime.


Take a bicycle ride in our bicycle lanes

Visit the Town of Hearst while enjoying nature with our Bicycle Lanes. We offer a variety between nature trails and riding in town. Click to see the map of all the lanes.


Play at the water park

The perfect stop on a hot summer day to get the kids (and adults) to cool down! 

Located across the Caisse Alliance at 911 Prince Street.

The Town has multiple basketball courts with the municipal parks.

Visit Nation’s Park

Designed by local artist, Laurent Vaillancourt, the Nations’ Park represents most of the Town’s local ethnic heritage. Created as part of the Town’s centennial anniversary, each branch of the tree represents a culture present in Town. The tree is seated on the back of a turtle, representing the Indigenous heritage and communities, located at the corner of 9th and George Streets.


Visit Memorial Park

Honor our veterans by stopping by at Memorial Park. A few statues are in place to represent the sacrifices of our veterans.


Admire the Mattawishkwia River

As part of Lecours Park, the River Observatory is the perfect place to relax, stretch your legs and take a small break. 


Spend the day a the Johnson’s Lake Park

Spend the day bathing in the sun or in the water! You can also play some Volleyball or enjoy the lake on a kayak or any other gasless watercraft.

Located about 1 kilometer from Downtown, this municipal park features a supervised beach during the summer, a playground, and a picnic area.


Go fishing on one of our lakes

Starting in May, you can go fishing on one of the multiple lakes around Hearst and the area that offers amazing fishing! Visit the MNRF website to see which kind of fish you can find where, as well as all the regulations.

With the warming temperature, you will need to be extra careful with the ice thickness. You can always check with the locals before planning your fishing trip.
