Recycling in Hearst

The Municipality encourages residents to reduce and recycle waste.  We now provide service for the curbside collection of blue boxes.  Recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, cans and plastic (all types of plastic containers types 1 to 5 and 7) except type 6 and plastic bags can also be deposited at the transfer station (dome) located at at the Municipal waste disposal site on Hwy 583 north. For more information on recyclable materials please visit the recycling guide or click on the following link.

NOTICE

April 2, 2020

RECYCLING COLLECTION TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Timmins recycling and sorting facility, Northern Environmental Services, had to considerably reduce its services to enable the application of the physical distancing measures put in place by the province.  As a result, the facility no longer accepts recycling from surrounding municipalities.

While several alternatives have been considered by the Public Works Department and the municipal administration, the best solution under these circumstances, is to temporarily suspend the recycling collection service for the duration of the pandemic.  Furthermore, considering the excess waste that families generate due to the confinement situation, and the additional costs involved, the Municipality will also temporarily waive the landfill site tipping fees for residential waste, for Hearst residents only.

Please be therefore advised that beginning Monday, April 6, 2020, waste collection will be carried out on a weekly basis using the black approved containers, until further notice. Unfortunately, residents are being asked to put their recycling habits aside during this time of crisis.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation.
