Kapuskasing, ON, February 27, 2024 – The Mayors of Kapuskasing and Hearst are currently in discussions with Kap Paper Inc. and local leaders to consider strategies to maintain local jobs and significant investments in the region. Kap Paper Inc. recently hosted a mill tour for the two Mayors, to initiate comprehensive conversations about the future of the company.
“For almost 100 years, the mill (Kap Paper Inc.) has had longstanding and positive relationships with the business community in Northeastern Ontario,” said the Kapuskasing Paper Mill’s CEO, Terry Skiffington, “Our main focus is on ensuring long-term sustainability and success of both our company and the region.”
The Mayors of Kapuskasing and Hearst highlighted the negative impacts of mill closures on families and local businesses, underscoring the importance for collaborative approaches to address challenges and to attract new investments.
“The future holds promise, but we must remain proactive in securing it,” emphasized Dave Plourde, Mayor of Kapuskasing. “Regular discussions between myself, Mayor Roger Sigouin, and Kap Paper Inc. are vital for Kapuskasing to continue to grow and thrive for years to come.”
Continuing discussions with mayors in neighboring communities will also be part of the ongoing dialogue. Together, we are committed to supporting our local economy to garner a prosperous future for the families and businesses that live, work and play in our region.
