Mission and History
Taste of Hearst is an annual event that replaced the community dinner at the AGRIVA Markets’ closure in 2013 and is organized by the Hearst Economic Development Corporation. Its mission is to increase Hearst’s visibility, attract new visitors/tourists and boost the local economy. This project will generate many benefits for the tourism and commercial stakeholders and also for the entire population.
Taste of Hearst will help promote local and regional food products by having two types of activities : tastings and meals. We also want to promote the culinary expertise of local and regional talent by presenting Ontario products like microbrewery beers, wines, fruit-based products in Northern Ontario, cheese, chocolate, local vegetables, meat, etc.
Since 2015, two days of activities are planned. Starting on Friday in the afternoon, epicurean amateurs can taste various products made by local and regional exhibitors, followed by a beer tasting and meal. The tastings continue on Saturday morning and afterwards four amateur chefs demonstrate their talents by cooking ribs for the Ribs Contest. The people vote for their favorite ribs and the winner comes back the following year to defend his title for champion.
Every night, the central tent holds the performances of all kinds of musical artists.
Taste of Hearst is considered as one of the major events in our region and is a big hit since it started.
