On behalf of Hearst Council and staff, I am pleased to welcome you to our community's website. We take great pride in our Town, which is strategically located on TransCanada Highway No. 11 in the heart of Northern Ontario.

Hearst's population of 6,000 is largely francophone, with a notable presence of residents having English, Finnish, Czechoslovakian, Chinese, Greek, Portuguese and Russian heritages. The First Nations and descendants of aboriginal groups are also an important part of the multicultural make-up of Hearst. See more of the word from the Mayor

Becoming a Candidate for Council

Generally, to run for election on a municipal council or local board, you must be:

  • A resident of the Town of Hearst or a non-resident owning property in Hearst, or a tenant in Hearst, or the spouse of a non-resident property owner or tenant;
  • A Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years of age on or before voting day;
  • Not disqualified by any legislation from holding office.
