ABOUT CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) March 13, 2020
The Town of Hearst is working together with local and provincial health establishments to monitor the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Hearst, and will provide updates as the situation evolves.
The health and safety of Hearst residents are the Town’s and local health establishments’ main priority. In addition to our usual health and hygiene protocols, the Town is taking further measures to protect residents, who are encouraged to do the same by self-monitoring and self-isolating if necessary. For more information on the prevention and risks of COVID-19, please visit the Health Canada website https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/prevention-risks.html.
We urge residents to avoid presenting themselves in person at our administrative offices for enquiries, and to rather use remote means of communication such as e-mails, telephone or the online bill payment system, http://www.hearst.ca/en/residents/online-payments-paymentus/. To reach municipal employees, please visit the Town of Hearst website http://www.hearst.ca/en/town-hall/departments/ and click on the department you wish to communicate with to obtain the assigned employees’ contact information.
Please be reminded to stay home and not go to the hospital emergency department if you experience symptoms associated with COVID-19 such as fever, new or worsening cough and difficulty breathing. People experiencing these symptoms are advised to call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 to obtain medical advice.
Please also refrain from visiting the Foyer des Pionniers or any senior citizen home if you experience symptoms associated with COVID-19.
The Town of Hearst encourages you to remain abreast of the COVID-19 developments in Northern Ontario by visiting the Porcupine Health Unit http://www.porcupinehu.on.ca/en/ and the Notre-Dame Hospital https://www.ndh.on.ca/ websites.
